Land Conservation Program
The Land Conservation Program is at the heart of our mission. This program works with local landowners to implement best practices that promote soil health, reduce erosion, and improve land productivity. We provide technical assistance, resources, and financial incentives to encourage the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. Our goal is to maintain the long-term health and productivity of Blaine County’s lands while ensuring that future generations can continue to benefit from our natural resources.
- Soil Health Initiative: Offers workshops, resources, and on-site consultations to promote practices like cover cropping, crop rotation, and reduced tillage, all aimed at improving soil fertility and structure.
- Erosion Control: Provides guidance on implementing terraces, buffer strips, and other erosion control measures to prevent soil loss on both agricultural and non-agricultural lands.
- Landowner Assistance: Offers financial incentives and grants to landowners for implementing conservation practices that benefit the environment.
Water Quality Program
Our Water Quality Program focuses on preserving and improving the water resources of Blaine County. We work with farmers, landowners, and local communities to reduce pollution, enhance water conservation, and protect our watersheds. This program includes regular monitoring of water quality, educational outreach, and the implementation of best management practices (BMPs) to minimize runoff and contamination.
- Watershed Protection: Collaborates with local stakeholders to develop watershed management plans that address pollution sources and protect water quality.
- Stream Restoration: Works to restore and stabilize streambanks, reducing sedimentation and improving habitat for aquatic species.
- Irrigation Efficiency: Provides resources and guidance on modern irrigation techniques that conserve water and reduce the potential for nutrient runoff.
Wildlife Protection Program
The Wildlife Protection Program is dedicated to safeguarding the diverse ecosystems and species that call Blaine County home. We partner with private landowners, government agencies, and conservation organizations to protect and enhance habitats for native wildlife. This program includes habitat restoration projects, wildlife monitoring, and education on the importance of biodiversity.
- Habitat Restoration: Engages in planting native vegetation, removing invasive species, and enhancing wetlands to create suitable habitats for a variety of species.
- Wildlife Corridors: Supports the creation and maintenance of corridors that allow wildlife to move safely between habitats, reducing the impact of habitat fragmentation.
- Species Monitoring: Conducts surveys and monitoring programs to track the health and population of key species, including threatened and endangered species.
Education and Outreach Program
Education is a key component of our conservation efforts. The Education and Outreach Program aims to raise awareness about environmental issues and inspire action within the community. We offer a range of educational programs for schools, community groups, and the general public, including workshops, seminars, and field trips. Our goal is to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions about conservation and sustainability.
- School Programs: Offers curriculum-aligned educational programs for K-12 students, focusing on topics like ecology, water conservation, and sustainable agriculture.
- Community Workshops: Hosts workshops and seminars on various conservation topics, open to the public, to provide hands-on learning experiences.
- Publications and Resources: Provides educational materials, brochures, and online resources to help community members learn more about local environmental issues and how they can get involved.
